What is Massage Therapy?
The basic goal of massage therapy is to promote healing throughout the body and to increase overall health and well-being. This is done through the use of various strokes and techniques applied to the body, which help relax areas of muscle tension and tightness and promote health and vitality in the entire body.
Acupressure is an ancient healing art that uses finger pressure on key points throughout the body to help stimulate the release of muscular tension, promote circulation of the body’s energy flow (or chi), and stimulate the body’s natural self-healing abilities.
Deep tissue massage utilizes techniques that affect the deeper sub-layers of muscle and connective tissue in the body. It uses very focused deep pressure in specific areas to help release restrictions in the body and improve range of motion. Deep tissue massage can be very intense, but should never be painful, so always be sure to communicate with your therapist regarding the pressure.
Swedish massage is the most common form of massage therapy. It utilizes various strokes including smooth gliding strokes, kneading, friction, stretching and sometimes tapping to help stimulate circulation throughout the body, decrease muscle tension and tightness, and provide general relaxation of the body and mind.
